1. BBQ – 3pm on Saturday 8 August 2015

As part of their annual Harvest festivities, the Celestial Church of Christ are hosting a community BBQ in Cloudesley Square for anyone who wishes to come along from 3pm on Saturday, 8th August (flyer attached). The Celestial Church would be thrilled to meet the residents so please do pop in if you are free that day.

2. Other Local Events to Note

The Angel Canal Festival is taking place from 11am to 5pm on 6th September. This is a free event. As well as stalls, there will be a children's fun fair with rides & bouncy castles, Punch & Judy, boat trips (20mins & 45 mins), art projects including free 'Have-a-go-at-Pottery' sessions, an outdoor art gallery, live music & street theatre. There is also a regatta with free 'Have-a-go-at-canoeing' sessions and bell-boat racing. Arsenal in the Community stage their 'Penalty Shoot-outs', as well as much more. (Www.angelcanalfestival.org)

Kings place has its annual festival on from Friday 11th September to Sunday 13th September. Enjoy a year's worth of shows in just 3 days. All tickets are just £6.50. (www.kingsplace.co.uk/festival)

Green Man is organising a beer and music 'Courtyard festival' at Kings Cross from Thursday 10th September to Sunday 13th September. As well as an array of beers, ales and ciders, this free, four-day event will include everything from craft brewing lessons, to walkabout theatre and interactive workshops. 3. Dowrey Street Site

Florence and I have been in contact with the Council in relation to the inactivity on the site. The Council have stated:

"We are currently in a process of finalising contract terms with the contractor. Whilst we are close to a start date it is not possible to provide a date as of yet until everything is finalised. I will ensure that residents will be given at least 2 weeks notice prior to the early works starting and a full briefing for main construction works."

We will let you know when we hear anything further but we are hopeful that the works will commence in August.

4. Planning

Florence and I met with our street reps last week and discussed the topic of planning applications. We confirm that we will help advertise major planning applications that residents feel may be of interest to others (typically those that affect the character of the street/area or may cause major disruption such as external or subterranean building works). As previously mentioned, depending on the nature of the application it may not be appropriate for the Association itself to respond/comment on such planning applications but clearly we are happy to share information to our residents. We, together with the street reps, will keep an eye out for major applications in the area and if necessary, furnish opinion from residents down the relevant streets.

5. Local Planning Policies

You may recall that in an earlier newsletter, we mentioned that the Council are currently in the process of developing local planning policies which they will use for making decisions on planning applications for different types of development. The documents that provide this guidance are called Supplementary Planning Documents ("SPDs").

From Friday 10 July 2015 until Friday 4 September 2015 the Council would like to get your views on the following draft SPDs:

Location and Concentration of Uses – the draft SPD provides guidance on how to identify those areas where certain uses create concern, and put in place measures to prevent over-concentration, with additional focus on three specific uses – hot food takeaways, betting shops and payday loan shops.
Basement Development – the draft SPD provides detailed guidance to support the assessment of planning applications involving basement development.
Development Viability – the draft SPD identifies a range of issues and proposes approaches for how viability in the planning application process is addressed.

During the consultation period, the draft SPDs will be available alongside the Consultation Statements which set out who was consulted when preparing each SPD; a summary of the main issues raised by those persons; and how those issues have been addressed in the SPDs. Following this consultation, all comments will be analysed and, if necessary, changes may be made to the documents. The SPDs will then be taken to the council's Executive for formal adoption.

6. Street Party

At our street reps meeting, we discussed the idea of having a street party next Spring/Summer to raise funds for both the landscaping for the Bridge School site and to raise funds to help the redevelopment of the church in Cloudesley Square. We would like to discuss this in some detail at our next residents meeting in the Autumn. We will of course be looking for plenty of volunteers to help with stalls and activities so please do let us know if you have any thoughts/particular interest in helping with the planning and organization of this event.
